William W. Wallace correspondence, 1846-1866 (bulk 1846-1852).

12 ALS, 10 written by William to his wife Mary E. Wallace, 1846-1850. He describes his trip to Texas via the Ohio River, his stop in Mississippi to sell family land, with a favorable description of the South. He travels on to San Augustine,Texas, which he describes in detail. One letter contains a memorandum of a deed to four different tracts of land in Houston and Cherokee counties. Two other letters are written from Warrenton and addressed to Mary in Montgomery County, Tennessee. William gives his reasons for wanting to return to Warrenton, one of which is the recovery of their runaway slave. He discusses the cost of advertising the runaway, and also refers to his plans to sell a slave family when he returns to Nashville. Accompanied by a letter from his nephew H. E. Wallace, to Bob, H. E.'s cousin, dated Nov. 3, 1852, describing San Augustine encouraging Bob and "Uncle W." to join him there. Another letter, dated July 22, 1866 from Austin, is addressed to Major W. W. Wallace from R. F. Slaughter regarding an unpaid loan.
